Managing Aches & Pains
Updated: May 6, 2022

Dealing with chronic pain is difficult and exhausting. Recovering from injuries, recuperating from strenuous activity, and suffering from conditions like arthritis and fibromyalgia can inhibit us from living our best lives. Some folks are looking for all natural remedies right off the bat, turning to ancient herbal wisdom and connecting with the healing properties earth has to offer. Others are looking for alternatives to prescriptions and opioids, which often come with alarmingly long lists of dangerous side effects, including addiction, organ failure, and depression.
Unlike the popular pain-relieving active ingredient in cannabis, THC, CBD does not induce effects such as euphoria, paranoia, or impairment of motor skills. Full spectrum CBD extract from hemp plants (not cannabis), can provide many of the same medicinal benefits without the psychoactive or intoxicating effects of THC.
Human bodies (actually, all mammals) respond to plant-derived cannabinoids, like CBD, because of our Endocannabinoid System (ECS) – a network of neurotransmitters which help our body achieve homeostasis. Homeostasis refers to our bodies’ optimal state of functioning.
Take a deep breath and imagine your optimal state of being.. Mine finds me grounded in my body, free from pain, with the emotional fortitude to navigate life’s daily challenges with efficiency, compassion, and respect. In my experience, dull aching and sharp pains have created blockages for my physical and mental wellbeing, distractions from loving more in my day.
The ECS regulates a wide array of both mental and physical functions, including pain sensation. This regulation is assisted through the consumption or application of phytocannabinoids – adding plant-derived CBD to our bodies to interact with our native cannabinoid-receptors.
When consumed orally, CBD enters the bloodstream through mucous membranes and/or the digestive system and is distributed throughout the body. Oral and sublingual consumption are great ways to address widespread and/or deep, hard-to-reach issues throughout the body. When applied to the skin, CBD penetrates the nerves and muscles (not the bloodstream). Applying a topical to the skin is a great way to address areas in need of extra tender loving care directly with your own two hands.
